“Mighty Warriors” was the name selected by the men of the church to reflect their purpose – to stand boldly for God wherever He has placed them.   The following are the Qualities of a Mighty Warrior, based on Exodus 15:3:  “The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is His Name.”

  • A Mighty Warrior is a servant disciple who is all about Jesus, with a ministry and purpose focused on sharing Jesus Christ with the lost.
  • A Mighty Warrior does nothing out of fear, relying instead on the Lord.
  • A Mighty Warrior actively, respectfully and faithfully seeks God’s leading and confirmation every step of the way.
  • A Mighty Warrior serves with the Lord’s compassion and mercy as a servant leader.
  • A Mighty Warrior enters into the battle fully equipped, trained, tested and reliant on the Holy Spirit and the Lord’s guidance.
  • A Mighty Warrior has progressed beyond basic Bible knowledge and elementary doctrines in order to take on the spiritual meat and challenges of God’s calling.
  • A Mighty Warrior takes what is learned in Scripture and actively and regularly applies it in real life battles against the dominion, powers and principalities of this world.
  • A Mighty Warrior does not rob God of His glory, but voluntarily chooses to give all glory to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.
  • A Mighty Warrior tears down idols and strong holds of false gods wherever they are found and builds in their place proper altars to the Lord such as faith, hope, and love.

“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.”  Proverbs 27:17   (NIV)

In monthly breakfast meetings, the men enjoy fellowship and plan upcoming activities.  They participate in Bible studies geared especially to meet their needs, and they are committed to holding one another accountable to integrity in their careers and in their personal lives.
Plans are currently under way for the Second Annual Roanoke Valley Men’s Conference, an inter-denominational conference to be held at Harvest Ministries September 23-24.
The Mighty Warriors challenge other guys to come, participate in the fun, and receive strength for the journey.

Harvest Women’s Ministries endeavors to create an atmosphere where women can realize spiritual maturity and fellowship; develop their leadership skills; and minister in the local church, community and the world.

Our women are encouraged to accept their responsibility as women of God. The verses found in Romans 12:1, 10-13, form the foundation for these aspirations.  Women who will “offer themselves as living sacrifices, acceptable and pleasing to God; devoted to one another in love, honoring one another above themselves; serving God and their church with zeal, keeping their spiritual fervor; joyfully hopeful; patient in affliction and faithful in prayer; sharing with God’s people who are in need; and practicing hospitality.”

The dedicated women of Harvest Ministries are making a difference in the world and in the community by our commitment to devote time, talents and finances to promote the common goal of reaching other women with the message of salvation and hope.

Life is worth living! Our name, J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) is an indication of our feelings.  It says that our hearts are still young and that we want to experience the abundant life Christ offers even in our later years, as we continue to serve Him.

Through our meetings and activities, we strive to give support to and increase the quality of life of men and women ages 50+ from every walk of life in our church and community.  We want to provide Christian enrichment through fun, fellowship, games, activities, dinners and socials.

In the past, we have enjoyed many themed evenings and events such as Luau, Hee Haw, Nascar, Hollywood, Oktoberfest, Tribute to our Military, School Days, “Senior” Prom, and Christmas “Hoe Down,” just to name a few.  We’ve also had game show themes such as “The Price Is Right,” “Let’s Make A Deal,” and “Deal Or No Deal.” We have taken lots of pictures, and you can view many of  them on Facebook (Harvest J.O.Y Seniors’ Ministries-Roanoke VA).  Our funding comes through Harvest Ministries and donations from many local merchants and personal contributions.  Therefore, each event is FREE to everyone 50+, and we encourage everyone to bring friends and family.

It just wouldn’t be a J.O.Y. meeting without a fast-paced and exciting game of BINGO with “The BINGO King,” Reggie Tyler.  We give away lots of prizes at every meeting and love to hear the laughs and see the smiles as somebody yells, “BINGO!”

Bi-monthly services at Springtree Healthcare and Rehab Center are an extension of the J.O.Y. activities at church to those unable to attend.  These meetings are coordinated by Wanda and Curtis Howell.  As the residents enjoy singing and Bible Study, their lives are enriched and blessed.  Volunteers are always welcome to participate in this ministry.   In addition, the Howells are willing to visit people at other nursing homes or rehab facilities in the valley upon request.  If you’re interested, please contact the church office. governer

Remember:  age is just a number.  But if you’re 50+, that’s all it takes to be an active part of Harvest Ministries J.O.Y. group.  So, what are you waiting for?  Plan now to attend the next meeting in the Fellowship Hall on the Lower Level.
